The launching of the "Growing Together" program in Dar es Salaam on 6 November 2024
The Director General of COPRA, Irene Madeje Mlola, participated as a panelist in the launch of the "Growing Together" program in Dar es Salaam on 6 November 2024, where she discussed Tanzania’s pathways to increasing farmer productivity and beneficiation through market systems.
COPRA is dedicated to establishing and strengthening market systems that promote transparency, elevate quality standards, and secure Tanzania's food supply. Through regulatory oversight and market formalization, COPRA supports food safety, shields farmers (and other value chain actors) from global price fluctuations, and aligns domestic markets with international standards - essential for advancing cross-border trade.
In her panel discussion, the Director General highlighted COPRA’s strategic focus on setting the right foundation through regulatory oversight and our inclusive approach for key value chains, which directly supports the Growing Together program’s mission. This includes transforming local food markets, bolstering food security, and stimulating the local economy by increasing small-scale producers' incomes and enabling food SMEs to scale and establish themselves as key players in Africa's food landscape. By optimizing value chains and promoting food production, COPRA is committed to driving a resilient, sustainable environment that mitigates climate-related disruptions and safeguards value chain stakeholders in the cereals and other produce industry.
Through participating in initiatives like Growing Together, COPRA continues to champion the development of resilient market systems that uplift communities, ensure food security, and position Tanzanian agribusinesses as competitive forces within the region.
